Mephedrone and MDPV Federal Ban
Thanks to all the irresponsible users of bath salts, a federal ban on MDPV and Mephedrone (4-MMC) has passed in the Senate judiciary committee and is moving on for a vote in the House and Senate. While most would be eager to chalk this ban up to the bath salt craze, it was likely to happen anyways. Other countries have banned Mephedrone months ago; however, the United States is one of the last to label it as a controlled substance.

What does this mean?
While Mephedrone and MDPV are both certainly powerful substances, there are hundreds of other research chemical with similar cathinone and amphetamine qualities that make them just as effective. Other substances like 4-Fluoroamphetamine are still found in many bath salts and is most likely to be the prominent drug of choice when vendors decide to re-design their products; furthermore, many search chemicals like RTI-126 are still in the process of being synthesized and have yet to see the light of day.
It wont be long until manufacturers pump out re-designed products with different active ingredients. This ban is more likely to fuel the synthesis of new research chemicals than prevent them.
